We are excited to announce that Kanawha will now be recycling used tennis balls. In the covered shelters by Courts 2, 4, and 5, there are now green boxes with a hole in the top through which tennis balls will fit. If you use some tennis balls to the point that they are no longer bouncing and are “dead”, please put them in a green box. We are thrilled to be able to be even better citizens of our environment by doing this. When a box is full, we will ship it off to Recycle Balls by Wilson (at their expense) so that they can break down the balls and reuse part of them. Please help us out by putting ONLY TENNIS BALLS in these green boxes. They are well marked. Also, since they are cardboard boxes, please leave the boxes in the covered shelters.
While we’re on the subject of trash and recyclables, it would probably be a good idea to remind everyone of a few things. The dumpster at the bottom of the parking lot is for RECYCLABLES ONLY. It is NOT FOR GARBAGE or DOG WASTE BAGS. Also, pizza boxes are not recyclable because of the grease that gets into the cardboard. It would actually be good if only staff used that dumpster, so that we can be sure that only recyclable materials are placed there. Around the facility, we have several blue recyclable containers. Here is what should go in the different receptacles.
Blue Recycling Cans: empty plastic bottles, empty aluminum cans, empty glass containers (though we strongly discourage glass on the property), flattened cardboard that does not have food or grease on it
Green Cardboard Boxes labeled RECYCLE BALLS by Wilson: USED TENNIS BALLS ONLY
Gray or Neutral Color Garbage Cans: all trash and garbage that is not recyclable
Kanawha staff will take care of emptying these 3 types of containers or shipping off the tennis ball boxes when they are full. Please help us by putting your trash where it belongs.
PLEASE SHARE ALL OF THIS INFORMATION WITH EVERYONE IN YOUR HOUSE WHO WILL BE USING THE KRA FACILITIES, EVEN DURING THE NON-POOL SEASON
