Dear KRA Member,
My name is Karl Kratzer and I am now serving as your President of the Kanawha Recreation Association (KRA) Board for 2017. I have been a member at KRA since 2004 with my wife Susan and two sons, Kai and Erik. A major reason we selected our home was because it is within walking distance of KRA. I am happy to be a member of this board and will work to maintain and enhance KRA as a member and community recreational facility we all can enjoy.
I have three news updates to share regarding recent Board actions:
Meet Your New Kanawha Board of Directors
I’d like to thank our Immediate Past President Chuck Pollard, whose flip flops I will now try to fill at KRA. He brought tremendous energy and passion to the President role and leaves a strong, talented Board in place to serve the club’s membership. Other Board member officers voted in at the Annual Meeting include: Travis Gardner, Vice President; David Kennedy, Treasurer, and Kathy Carpenter, Secretary. Additionally, the Board unanimously voted to appoint the following individuals (whom we thank for volunteering!) to lead the following committees for the following year:
Tracy Collier: Swimming
Amy Ford: Diving
Amy Hughes: Social
Mike Locher: Facilities
Jennifer Pounders: Communications
Betsy Reid: Assistant Social
Robin Reifsnider: Tennis
Laura Walton: Swimming
Swimmers, Take Your Eight Lanes!
Proposed Competition Pool Construction Update
We held our Annual Meeting of Members on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at River Road Church, Baptist immediately before our October Board of Directors Meeting. After a presentation and a Q&A period, the members voted with 31 in favor and none against, to support Kanawha Recreation Association taking out a loan for no more than $975,000, secured by a note against the KRA property, to finance the replacement of the competition pool as an eight-lane pool. Henrico County has approved a Conditional Use Permit for the proposed expansion of the completion pool to an eight-lane pool. We will continue to keep the membership informed for planning and work as we move forward.
Kanawha Recreation Association Tennis Changing Up for 2017
At the beginning of November, the Board informed our tennis pro Kevin McMillen that KRA is not renewing his contract for 2017. We appreciate the contributions Kevin made and know he will continue do great things in the tennis community and in life. We want to assure our tennis participants and parents that this is a positive, well-thought-out decision that will result in the continued growth of all levels of our tennis program. We are currently searching for a new tennis pro that can serve the diverse needs of the KRA community and welcome your help and expertise. If you know if anyone who might be a fit and should be considered, please contact our Tennis Rep Robin Reifsnider at 804.310.7034.
I hope everyone had a safe and wonderful start to the holiday season with another beautiful Thanksgiving Weekend. Again, I look forward to meeting and working with our existing and future KRA membership to keep KRA as the leading area choice to get outside and play!
