Dear KRA Member:

Please join us for the Annual Meeting of the Kanawha Recreation Association to be held Tuesday, October 18, at 7:30 pm, at River Road Church, Baptist at the corner of River Road and Ridge Road. The meeting will be held on the lower level of the church in the Adult Assembly Room, which can be easily accessed through the doors facing the Ridge Road parking lot.

Aside from discussing general KRA business, KRA members will have the opportunity to vote on: (i) the new Board slate; and (ii) the proposed construction on the lap pool as discussed further below.

Your input is valued, and this is your chance to participate actively in the future of KRA!

Summary of Proposed Lane Pool Construction:

The Board of Directors at KRA has approved the construction of a new 8 lane pool to replace the existing 6 lane lap pool.  The existing pool is over 40 years old, has circulation issues , and needs to be replaced.  Conceptual plans for the new pool and surrounding areas will be provided at the annual meeting and on the website in the future.   Construction is planned for early 2017 or after the next summer season in September 2017.

It is the Board’s intention to finance the construction without assessing the membership or raising dues more than standard operating cost increases.  Estimated costs are $975,000 and will be financed over 20-25 years.  KRA is working with several lenders on a competitive loan package.  The snack bar construction loan has been paid off, providing KRA with the financial means to complete this project.  Over the last 15 years, KRA has updated and improved facilities with a new L-shaped pool, diving pool, pavilion, snack bar and restrooms, and new tennis courts #8-9.  KRA has been financially diligent with in order to complete these capital improvements.  The lap pool is the last major phase of these renovations.  Future projects will include fencing and tennis court resurfacing, but would cost substantially less than the new pool construction.

KRA Membership Approval:

KRA By-Laws state that membership approval is needed when mortgaging KRA property, and a majority vote of active members present at an Annual or Special Meeting is required.  Therefore, please attend the Annual Meeting at 7:30 PM Tuesday, October 18 at River Road Church, Baptist to vote on this important issue and for the new Board slate.  If you have any questions regarding this letter, please feel free to call me at 804-405-4011.
